I’ll be giving a keynote lecture at The Wellcome Trust this Saturday. My lecture will focus on how our actions in the dojang (martial arts training hall) influence how we act in our day-to-day lives.
Intellectually we can understand the importance of goal setting, being present, holding attention, letting go of failed attempts, etc… Knowing, however, is not enough. Just in the same way that we must practice our kicks and throws in order to perfect the technique, we must also practice our mental skills, and practice them repeatedly in order to create positive mental habits.
Disciplined daily martial arts practice creates positive mental habits.
